IPM offers special rates for public programs for corporate members

Background;

In order to reinforce the benefit offered to the Membership, we suggest offering some discounted rates for programs relevant to the HR fraternity which will no doubt help for continuous professional development. 

This program will aid our Members to enhance their competencies to perform their duties in their chosen professional careers.

As members are a key part of our value chain and hence, a key stakeholder group in the Institute it is essential keep them content. 

This initiative will help to interact with members continuously, increase Brand Reputation/ Brand Image, Competitive advantage among other professional membership, attract new members for the Member base etc.

Consequently IPM would sponsor corporate members for relevant programs.

Programs offered will be approved by the President/Vice President/Honorary Secretary / Honorary Treasurer

All the members benefited will be disclosed to immediate council meeting

This initiative will be valid for paid up members.


Purpose / Objectives;

Reinforce benefit offered to Members 

Internship program for PQHRM students

Background;
The Internship program for IPM Students will be launched in conjunction with achieving the objective of: “Uplifting the standard of PQHRM student profile” which was planned at beginning of current Council year. This program will provide opportunities for IPM Students to undergo a rigorous internship in Sri Lanka’s top multinational companies and local blue-chip organizations, exposing students to the practical aspects of key areas in Human Resource Management and Development.

This unique opportunity will be granted to 20 Students for a period of six months. Those who have completed PQHRM stage 2 will be entitled for same. Each of the relevant students will be given Rs. 10,000 /- as an allowance per month. In this context the IPM would bear 50% of the cost and the respective organization will bear the rest of the expenses.

Each of the respective Companies will also spend accordingly; fourteen [14] multinational & local companies have been earmarked and duly approached.

IPM Awards Honorary Membership to Island’s Eminent Personalities


Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM), the nation’s leader in HRM is the knowledge Centre for local and regional People Managers. As the catalyst and partner in human capital development, the institute continuously improves quality, standards and practices of the profession.

The lifeblood of the Institute is its members who have made enormous contributions towards the success of the institute. In addition to professional enhancement, IPM facilitates its members with the opportunity to exchange ideas, sharing information and provides an excellent networking opportunity for HR Professionals.
While further expanding its membership network, IPM recently recognized two eminent personalities, who have contributed to the further development and advancement of HR profession of the island with institute’s Honorary Membership, at IPM annual graduation 2013. Mr. Upali Wijayaweera, the Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations and Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne, the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education were thus facilitated with IPM’s honorary membership.

Mr. Upali Wijayaweera, the Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations was recruited to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1984. He joined the Department of Labour in 1985 and held several important posts. He is the Chairman of National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Srama Vasana Fund and National Institute of Labour Studies. He is also a member of the board of Directors of the HDFC Bank.  He holds a B.Com (special) Degree from the University of Kelaniya and a PhD in Public Administration from SLIDA (Sri Lanka). Further, Mr. Wijayaweera continues to be the Government delegate to represent Sri Lanka at the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization, Geneva from 2011.


Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne, the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, has held top-level positions in the public and private sector. He has also functioned as the Director Human Capital, Youth Development and Rural Network at Cargills Ceylon PLC., a leading FMCG conglomerate in Sri Lanka. He completed his first degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura winning the “top of the batch” in 1977 and was conferred his PhD in Management from Keio University in Tokyo in 1993. His latest article on “Shifting Paradigms of Higher Education in Sri Lanka” has been published in Re-creating and Re-positioning of Sri Lankan Universities to meet Emerging Opportunities and Challenges in a Globalized Environment. He has also initiated to calculate the “Employability of Graduates” of all the national universities by the date of graduation ceremony for the years of 2012 and 2013.

IPM reaps precious benefits at CIPD conference

The island’s premier professional body in HRM, IPM’s official representatives Mr. Samitha Perera (the President) and Mr. Rohitha Amarapala (the Vice-President) recently participated at the annual conference and exhibition organized by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in the United Kingdom.

CIPD conference and exhibition, which was held in Manchester Central, was a huge success with a participation of 4,000 HR professionals seeking practical HR insights, new tools, techniques and new inspiration. Creating the best workplace on earth and techniques to enable transformational employee engagement; collecting and communicating HR data for greater business insight, Developing leadership behaviors aligned to vision, values and culture, creating meaningful work through ‘big data’ were some of the central topics aired and discussed at the conference.

The IPM representatives made use of the opportunity to discuss with CEO of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Mr. Peter Cheese about new approaches in updating the IPM curriculum, to raise and enhance it to globally recognized standards. They had further discussions on CIPD representation at IPM’s annual National HR conference scheduled to be held on 18th and 19th of June 2014 at The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall [BMICH], Colombo.

Mr. Samitha Perera and Mr. Rohitha Amarapala also had discussions with Mr. Cheese on further developing key result areas of HR over the Asian region, in collaboration with Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. These collaborative efforts will no doubt facilitate the corporate sector and all the HR professionals in the Asian region, who are longing for practical HR insights, new tools, techniques and inspiration in the field, which would keep them up to date and eminently relevant.
As a gesture of further sustaining and strengthening the cordial and healthy relationship between the two institutes, the IPM representatives presented the CIPD Chief Executive Officer a special gift.

Report on Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) Meeting, Conference and related Activities
 September 2013 Goa, India

IPM Sri Lanka was represented at the APFHRM meeting by Mr. Ajith Costa, the past president IPM. Mr. Janaka Kumarasinghe, also a  past president represented as the 2nd delegate from Sri Lanka.

As a prelude to the meeting NIPM president Mr. Mohan Das hosted a dinner for APFHRM delegates on the evening of 25th September at Hotel Cidade De.

The meeting of APFHRM delegates was held on   26th Thursday, from 9 am   September 2013 at the Conference Hall at Hotel Cidade De,Goa.

The President APFHRM provided an overview of the award and process and requested nominations to be put forward to President ( APFHRM) who will submit on behalf of the APFHRM due on 30th November.

On a proposal made by Janaka Kumarasinghe it was agreed to Share Asia/ Pacific rising HR stars biographies to be profiled on the APFHRM website as Asia needs to promote its own pool of resource personnel as a region with over 50% of the global population.

3rd APFHRM Conference and 32 NIPM Conference
The 3rd APFHRM Conference and 32 NIPM Conference was held at Kala Academy, Goa India on 26th, 27th and 28th September with the participation of around 750 participants. The conference was declared opened by the Chief Minister of Goa. This has been organized by the Goa Chapter of NIPM on behalf of NIPM India.

APFHRM Panel Discussion
The president NIPM in India had requested APFHRM to conduct short  session on 27th September at the conference to showcase APFHRM. Thereafter, Ms. Lyn Goodyear-Secretary General APFHRM requested to Janaka Kumarasinghe, a past president  APFHRM to represent the APFHRM in this session. Instead, on a suggestion made by Janaka  a panel discussion with all country representatives was held. This was moderated by the Janaka Kumarasinghe and IPM  Sri Lanka was represented in the panel  by Mr. Ajith de Costa the APFHRM delegate of IPM  Sri Lanka.

APFHRM Delegates- NIPM Council Member Meeting 
A side meeting was held between the above 2 parties on 27th at Kala Academy to exchange views and develop better understanding.

All in all Sri Lankan delegates were able to add an impact at the APFHRM delegates  meeting and related events. Also the IPM Sri Lanka delegation led by the immediate past president, IPM Sri Lanka , AVM Rohitha Ranasinghe was an important segment of the international participants at the 3rd APFHRM and 32nd NIPM conference.
